J. Anthony “Tony” Heit, M.D., is a family man in the best sense of the word. He and his wife, Terry, a physical therapist and current full-time mother, have four children.  Dr. Heit himself came from a large family, so it’s only natural that he enjoys helping his patients start their own families, or add to them. “My family is important to me, so I know it’s important to my patients,” Dr. Heit says.

Another important aspect of his medical practice is performing surgery. “One of the exciting things in medicine right now is the growth in laparoscopic surgery, which is generally much easier on the patient. These advances allow us to avoid 'major' procedures and we can limit the disruption to our patient's lives,” Dr. Heit says.

In addition to good skills as a physician and surgeon, Dr. Heit says as an obstetrician and gynecologist, he also must be a good communicator. "Every woman I see has her own special concerns about her health. Because of my interests, clinical training and experience, I can approach each situation with a calm, common sense approach, and I think that's good for my patients. Life is wild enough already."

With four children himself, Dr. Heit is concerned about how hectic and busy life is for his patients today. "Things are difficult when a woman is trying to balance a career, a family and a home, and everything that goes along with those responsibilities," he says. "I want my patients to sit back a minute, take a deep breath and just enjoy life a little more; simplify as much as possible and try not to take on more than they can handle,” he advises. “Life will always be challenging, and at times may seem overwhelming. I just want to do everything I can to make things easier for my patients."
